Several ladies went with the landscape theme so was glad I'd prepared a visual sample and not relied on a verbal description.

Out of my comfort zone

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 306px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_kZs4UbFcmOE/SiLk8NZVsHI/AAAAAAAAAbA/-_dTnEV0dPs/s320/P5310001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5342083831054053490" />

I've just completed a three day workshop at Cowslip Workshops with textile artist Cas Holmes whose background is in fine art, and am positive spoke a different language to me... a specialist "Art" language!
The first day was surface decoration onto both paper and fabric using acrylic paint. Cas uses very basic materials and isn't lured by the latest greatest new product, which is really refreshing.
Printing was with a rubber stamp we'd carved during our first exersise and making marks with whatever else we could find around us. We needed to amass a collection of fabrics/papers of differing weights and textures with which to work from on days 2 and 3.
An integral part of the course was recording everything in our mandatory sketchbooks, therefore building up a resource bank of ideas and information either to use or discard! Hard habit to get into but definately proved to be successful.
Day two...using the work completed on day one, plus "sunprinting" that we managed to do as the weather permitted, we began to put together a collage, adding other ephemera, found objects or fabrics as desired to create a "piece of work". Again the sketchbook recording figured heavily.
Day three was bliss, handstitching outside in glorious sunshine, can't think of anything better!
Although I felt out of my depth some of the time it was a worthwhile experience and have lots of areas for continued development.

Dyes are out again!

Finally I have managed to "random dye" some threads with results that I'm pleased with. Over the years I've tried on and off to get results like the hand dyed threads you can buy, but have remained unsuccessful.....until now.
Think a lot of the problem was that i just sloshed a bit of dye about and hoped for the best!! So, out came the Helen Deighan book, Dyeing in Plastic bags, and, something I don't do very often, actually read the chapter on dyeing threads and followed the instructions, again something I'm not too good at!
Perhaps I should do more of it as the results prove. They were exactly what I wanted, pale soft heathery coloured threads! So glad "old dogs" can be taught "new tricks"!

Absolute Joy

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 269px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_kZs4UbFcmOE/Sgh8TbRJgQI/AAAAAAAAAZw/pf__KK6rotQ/s320/IMG_4900.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334650431799394562" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 278px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_kZs4UbFcmOE/Sgh8THMhLCI/AAAAAAAAAZo/VOGqb4Njm3c/s320/IMG_4899.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334650426411265058" />
I was incredibly privileged this weekend to enjoy a workshop with Frances Pickering whose work is exquisite. Words fail me in trying to express just how much I enjoyed the two days. She's an amazingly generous, encouraging and inspirational tutor.
This bookmaking workshop was right up my street as I just love making books, all sorts of books and book covers.
The cover was made from pelmet vilene coloured with disperse dyes the flowers were then added using coloured pencils. When satisfied with my result it was given a coat of acrylic wax to seal it. Then detail and decoration was added using handstitching.
Pages were coloured with that wonderful "Brusho" stuff and stitched into place.
So far I've only started to fill one page but my aim is to practice drawing and painting various flowers within the pages in the hope it will all become much easier...

Back in the Northern Hemisphere

..... and I haven't been completely idle! Have been doing some dyeing, yes MORE dyeing...
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 227px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_kZs4UbFcmOE/Sgck45yOQaI/AAAAAAAAAZg/UKATqKZocio/s320/Dyed+Fabric.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334272843646386594" />
The method for dyeing these was given to me by a kindred spirit,(thanks Vinnie).
I took 15 plastic cups and arranged them in a 5,4,3,2,1 triangle formation. Then mixed up 200mls of procion dye concentrate in three colours(primaries) and distributed the colours in varying amounts into each pot. Starting with colour 1 on one side only of my triangle formation I put 1tsp in the pots on row 1, 2tsp in row 2, 3 in row 3 and so on. Then, starting from one of the other sides of the triangle I did the same with my second colour and on the third edge of my triangle did the same with my third colour. How confusing does that sound!!!! But honestly if you work it out on paper first it's simple, just a challenge to write!
Water, salt and soda solution was then added to each cup. The dye from each cup was then transferred to a plastic bag and a fat quarter(ish) was added to each bag, left overnight and voila! Have never really been so "measured" in my dyeing but the results were really pleasing and surprising.
I did three runs reducing the amount of dye concentrate in each run to produce paler shades. Plus a bit of an experiment adding black to the primaries as I wanted to dye some greys.
Guess i need to get sewing now.

Repurposing books.....

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_kZs4UbFcmOE/Se2hVuXV9hI/AAAAAAAAAZY/p92R5RwSdtI/s320/DPP_73.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327091328844428818" />
On a rather lovely day out in Melbourne with my sister visiting the particularly trendy Fitzroy Street, Brunswick street and Rose St Market we spotted some tired,and in some cases rather battered books (well just their hard covers) that had been given a new lease of life, that of a delightful notebook.
We couldn't hit the op shops fast enough to find some books that needed retiring from one purpose and given another, both settling on the childrens "Little Golden Books" with their dated illustrations and simple text. (The blue cover on the other book was also appealing so had to snap it up as well)
After removing the hardcover and cutting new pages the same size as the original ones from many different papers the whole lot was spiral bound very cheaply at a local printers. I did keep several of the original story pages within my notebook just to add to it's charm.
A button and tie was added as I always tuck loose bits of paper into any notebooks used and they inevitably fall out! Debbie and I had decided that we'd like to have a go at making our own screens. Firstly the design had to be drawn onto paper so i sketched a "gum tree" in the garden whilst sitting in the hot sunshine, oh life's hard! Really wanted my print to be "sketchy rather than a solid linear one.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_kZs4UbFcmOE/Sds4CA6ikFI/AAAAAAAAAY4/KTGofPSPXH8/s320/DPP_52.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321908991924801618" />

The sketch was then transferred at a local copy shop onto a transparency then hot footed back to the studio for the next stage. A blank screen was then coated with photo emulsion in a dark room then left to dry. When dry the transparency was placed on a lightbox, covered with the dried coated screen, exposed for 30 seconds to ultra violet light then taken off and rinsed in water. Hey presto my tree was there! The black areas printed on the transparency prevent the emulsion curing under the ultra violet light and so when the screen is rinsed those areas are washed away leaving them open to transfer colour through.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_kZs4UbFcmOE/Sds67f5TvbI/AAAAAAAAAZA/7hx4YUgd_RA/s320/DPP_53.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321912178516934066" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 255px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_kZs4UbFcmOE/Sds7jPZu53I/AAAAAAAAAZI/_uslQcieDh8/s320/DPP_54.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321912861284296562" />

Very chuffed with the results, hope to be able to bring my screen back with me for further use!

Last of my purchased fabric....

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_kZs4UbFcmOE/Sds1TTamAyI/AAAAAAAAAYw/7Fk1Dtckt9w/s320/DPP_51.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321905990413976354" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_kZs4UbFcmOE/Sds0vuWN0xI/AAAAAAAAAYo/RvlYmvKV5_k/s320/DPP_50.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321905379168080658" />
Decided that I'd like to use a little of my screenprinted fabric along with the last of the purchased bits and make a "largish" bag, pictures show front and back view. Well you know how one conversation can lead to another and.... we found ourselves on a tour of the department and an invitation to use the printmaking facilities. We spent two fantastic sessions screenprinting, using screens already made within the department. These are some of the results, fell in love with the "Agapanthus" screen and used it quite a lot.

The tape used on my sketch book cover was printed with this piece, hence the "blank" line running through!

....and finally just had to make up a fabric basket using some of my new treasures.

....more scraps to use up!

Decided to use the bits of fabric left over from my basket making extravaganza to make a long awaited sketchbook cover. I purchased 2.25 meters of fabric to make my stylish apron and have been using up the "surplus" (plus a retro nightie I'd picked up on my frequent op shop trawls), on the few projects photographed. Having decided that I needed to learn how to put in a zip and never sucessfully achieved it before I thought the opportunity to use Deb's far more logical mind than mine too good an opportunity to miss! So... she worked out the "how", instructed me and voila my little zipped bag was created.
The snap purse, again something that Debbie worked out and I just had the pleasure of making! We'd picked up some rather interesting crocheted lurex purses on a op shop trawl and stripped away the lurex part and re-used the clasp.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_kZs4UbFcmOE/Sc6G6x30exI/AAAAAAAAAXo/F3Se98ubFXw/s320/DPP_10.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318336554349132562" />
The waist apron design was a joint effort and am very pleased with the results.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_kZs4UbFcmOE/Sc6F8v4_evI/AAAAAAAAAXg/pnT6crTxP_I/s320/DPP_082.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318335488665287410" />

Well, thought it was time I took tentative steps back into the world of blogging! Am in Australia with my lovely sister and her family for 7 and a bit weeks and savouring every precious moment. She has a little haven on the upper floor of her house where we've wiled away many a creative hour stitching companionably. Before I arrived she compiled a "to go" list and a "to do"list both of which we're working our way through, but the lists seem to grow ever longer and time is getting ever shorter. Thought I'd post a few of the sewing project pics here to get me up and running again in blogland. It's been delightfully relaxing to sew just for the sake of it with such great company, in such a lovely space.

First two photo's are of one of the projects Deb had pre-orgainsed for us... A 1950s style reversible apron, perhaps it will turn me into a domestic goddess like her!!

When I arrived she'd made some great slippers for me,(check out her blog to see them and her apron) here woollen, warm and cosy just the job, along with two beautiful fabric baskets. Met up with three like minded friends and created from dawn 'til dusk.
I had wanted to have a go at the "bark fabric" technique that Val has explored and written about on her blog. Although I didn't want to create a finished piece that resembled tree bark i was intrigued at what background effects could be created using this method.
So off I went.....
A layer of felt was covered with some rust dyed fabric then newspaper, lace, painted papers and tissue were added finishing with a layer of sheer fabric. Stitching began and ended when I felt enough was enough! The peice was zapped with a hot air gun and stamped using foam blocks.
Keeping to my long running Anemone theme the shapes were stitched from behind using a sheer fabric as the applique piece and when stiched firmly into place I cut away the front portion (is this reverse applique?) Although not visible in the photograph the flowers are translucent. The applied flowers on the front are the bits that were cut away and are 3d but remain unfixed just pinned in place.
Now the dilema, it was created to be cut up into 2 PCs and a panel for a book cover but am rather liking the piece as a whole!
Thank you Maggie, Mandi and Linda for such a lovely weekend.
Off on Holiday this week so will be having a "blog break".

Four days of fun and surface decoration

Last week I spent four days with one of my closest friends just being creative.... bliss. Had a chance to explore "lamination" from the Lesley Morgan, Claire Benn and Jane Dunwold book purchased at the NEC, (pic's 1 and 2). After completing the lamination(transfer) process, which is so easy to follow from the book using matt medium, sheer polyester fabric and a variety of papers I screen printed the tree using a paper stencil and printing inks (pic 1). With the second bit (pic 2) decided to use transfer paints to decorate the surface further and took a print from a piece of anaglypta using the transfer paints then when dry, heat transferred it onto the sheer cloth. Very pleasing results!
Photo number 3 is a printed peice of fine linen using fabric paints with stamps, string, sequin waste and my trusty anaglypta then painted over with procion dyes (salt and soda added). It retained the colour really well so was chuffed.
And finally the last photograph is of the two paper stencils i cut for screenprinting and used during the time to decorate every piece of fabric and paper i could get my hands!
What a great few days am already looking forward to the next time we can manage to sneak off...

....on a roll now!

UFO's never kick start me into anything but after reading C.June Barnes (book mentioned in previous post) i decided to resurrect this piece which is at least three years old. It was loathed(as a whole) by the time it had put it together, although there were still small areas i liked. OriginallyI had wanted to create spaces behind to "use" as well as those on the front surface so had used dyed silk organza when piecing. Text was printed onto fabric which was then applied behind the sheer spaces as well as appliqued flowers. Although little bits of it were still liked it was too messy with colours that really weren't working. So....... I dyed it.
Do i like it now??? Not sure.
I lost the translucency to some extent as my cotton batting took the dye amazingly well making it very dark. In real life if you take a close look the text is still visible. The poly cotton fabric is, as you can see, very light. Stitching is now very clear as i used a synthetic thread in places and the cotton thread used took the dye differently to the surrounding fabric.
However, now feel i have a "more cohesive" surface to paint, print and work further onto. Watch this space.... may be a long time, ideas would be welcome.........

...I haven't been completely idle!

Needed to kick start my creativity after what seemed like a long break! I had Number 3 in my Anemone postcard series to produce(better late than never, our monthly timescale seems to be elastic!)
I had discovered this "technique" in Quilting Arts and wanted to try it out. Fabric paint is mixed with the same amount of Gel Medium, coat a rubber stamp with the paint mix, place velvet onto the stamp surface right side down and iron over it with the iron set at a suitable temperature for the fabric, and voila, an embossed print onto the fabric. The velvet i used was silk (blouse i bought but no longer liked) but you can use synthetic velvet as well.
The magazine article suggests using "Polymer Stamps" (think they're the clear ones but not sure) but i didn't have any so just used my rubber ones. Caution, the hot iron can ruin the surface of the rubber so tried to be quick and not use too much pressure.
I used this for my appliqued flower onto some rather beautiful background I'd been sent as treasure(thank you Val). It's her foiled fabric paper and was the perfect colour and texture.

Festival of Quilts

Like many of you out there, a trip to the Festival was the highlight of the weekend. Sharing it with a like minded friend was a brucie bonus. It was certainly a visual feast with something for everyone interested in Quilting and Textile Art. Will take a long time to digest all that my eyes feasted on. Three treasured purchases pictured above! The Stitching to Dye is by C.June Barnes, an Artist I have admired for some time and waited patiently for the release of her book,(very excited). The other two are by the talented trio, Leslie Morgan, Claire Benn and Jane Dunnewold. I spent some time in the Virtual Studio watching and talking to Leslie Morgan, who was by the way wonderfully generous with information, got so excited by all going on i started to drool!!! Intend to savour these purchases and more importantly explore their content fully in the coming months.
Have been creatively idle for the last few weeks combination of life and work(enjoyable just not creative) it's set to continue for a few more but will be active again very soon. A few years ago, my mum in law bought me two wonderful books on "Bookmaking" and to date. I'm ashamed to say, hadn't explored them. Well now I have and am HOOKED!
The photographs are a little out of order but am not IT literate enough to rectify this on my own and my daughter's in bed!
Picture number 1 is of papers I painted and/or stamped with a selection of pre-cut and handmade stamps. Number 2 is the front cover of the completed book, number 3, the inside of the completed book and finally number 4 the back and fron inside cover.
I mixed a few bookmaking ideas included in the book(Textbook), (very confusing too many book references!) just to make things interesting(hard) and challenging! Learned a few valuable lessons as well.
I included a few stitched pockets on some of the pages and some accordian folded pages which aren't clear from the photographs. There were 4 sections(signatures in bookmaking terms, now i am one!) each with a decorated paper spine. In the photo number 2 it's the paper you can see where the tassel is attached.
Better get cracking on some more as i think they'll make really nice gifts for christmas.(not sure in which year!)

Busy, fun filled, weekend....

What a busy weekend I had! Went to stay with a friend(Mandi) and we managed to try out Rust Dyeing as described in detail by Lynda (Purplemissus Blog) using Caustic soda, teabags and ferrous sulphate. Here are just a few snaps of my wonderful uncontrollable results. Due to inclement weather we were forced to do it inside with windows and doors open i hasten to add but the aroma isn't terribly pleasant i have to say
The first photo is one of fabric that was pre soaked in a washing soda solution prior to dunking. As you can see the russet tones are really vibrant. The second photo is of a selection of handmade papers and vilene plus a rather nice paper towel courtesy of Premier Lodge, many thanks! The final one is of fabric thats been pre-soaked in a vinegar solution, Lynda suggests white vinegar but ours was half white and half malt as that was all we had and can be very resourceful, not sure if it makes a difference.
I much prefer the "latte" colours of the paper and vinegar soaked fabrics. Thanks Lynda for fab tuition we had great time.

Next Stage...

Have printed onto the patchwork pieces from previous post using the same foam stamp blocks used on my last printing binge.
The un-pieced anemone printed fabric was a pink and white check commercial cloth that went into the same dyebath as the pieced one. The small piece in the corner and thin strip are what they looked like prior to being dunked in the dyebaths. None of the fabrics had been pre-washed, well i was on a roll! Think that may be why I ended up with a rather patchy look. Now i need to consider the next stage..... printing i think. Am trying to be really disciplined colour wise so I end up with a "stash" of farics that i can use togethe rather than a random "whatever takes your fancy" colour theme. Althought the top piece isn't quite what i had in mind that will teach me to write down previously used colours when dyeing a particular piece!!!

ATC and PC

What a title, sounds like a secret code!
The first photo is the ATC i made for a swap within the Yahoo group "Textile Challenge". Fabric paper base, painted using acrylics and stamped. The crown was taken from a larger peice of fabric i made using old bits of lace stitched onto felt then washed with emulsion paint (thanks Val). I then painted the crown silver and the fleur de lise is ..... yes you guessed it, anaglypta! Old habits die hard. Words printed onto stamped paper using a small alphabet stamp set recently purchased.

The second photo shows the first two PCs in my "series" swap with Mandi. I chose anemone's as my source material hence the flurry of printing activity previously. The first (top) is made solely from paper with and thread the second is fabric and thread. I wanted to achieve a similar effect using fabric and paint as i'd achieved using the fabric paper. Lots of layering of colour was the key, just using fabric paints and stamps cut from foam onto my own space dyed fabric.
Now number three...... hmmmm.

Number 2!

 In my postbox the other day was this little beauty! It was made from "funky foam", again from a local toy shop and glued onto a block. The images were printed using fabric paint onto previously dyed and printed fabric. Am liking the layered look and may continue further. The green leaves were stencilled on before printing the flowers. May need to consult "The Painted Quilt" book by the Kempshalls for some inspiration.

Block and Screen Printing

Decided to do a bit of further work on the fabrics dyed last weekend. Have had a play with screenprinting in the past and decided to resurrect my old battered screen and squeegie! The screen itself is just a wooden frame covered in a piece of fine net, crude but works. The stencil for the flowers was cut from greaseproof paper and attached, with masking tape, to the front of the screen. I used screen inks to print with, again have had them for about 10 years but wonderfully they've withstood the test of time! I then printed the black centre with a foam dot when the flower was dry.
The spirals were a block print made from childrens pre-cut foam shapes (from a local toy shop) glued to a piece of board. The photo's not great but i printed onto tissue paper and scrim as well as the large painted background. I used fabric paints and a sponge to coat the block then straight down onto fabric and voila!
Now, what shall i do with these? May print further but not sure yet.

and also..

 Had a go at painting the dyes directly onto pre-treated (soaked in soda solution) fabric, using the method in Ruth Issetts book "Colour on Cloth"
The first photo is when wet, the second when dry and the third when washed. I like soft muted colours so the final piece was pleasing but will need further experimentation to produce strong colours. Having never used Urea when dyeing fabric only salt i replaced the "Chemical Water" (recipe in the book) which contains Urea with a salt solution. I do like to go along on my own merry way sometimes!
Perhaps the inclusion of Urea would deepen the colour??? Any tips gratefully recieved. I used a pippette to "splodge" the dye onto the fabric, liking the feathery look it gave. My try to get a darker finished piece or may not as softer tones are much more me.

...a bit more

 These were dyed in plastic bags. The first photo is of a bargain fabric picked up in a local shop on saturday. It's a Viscose Linen and was £2.69 a metre. When i read on the label it was Viscose i knew how well it would absorb procion dyes and wasn't disappointed.
Silk organza, muslin, percale cotton and the viscose linen were all in the same dye bath and absorbed the dye in varying degrees. I used three colours pouring them into the bath one after another, raspberry, red brown and magenta. The percale is the lightest in colour and the organza the darkest. Was pleased with the results so now i need to get on and use them!

Hood Bag!

 Finally I'm able to post something having been "blog dormant" for a while. Been busy with some library books teaching myself "How to Draw". Not sure I've achieved the desired outcome but will continue to practice, after all isn't that what makes perfect!! Somehow i can't see that ever happening!
Well here's a photo of the bag I made from the hood of one of the jumpers on the last but one post. I just cut the hood off and prised the two layers apart, as it was lined originally with a knitted inner layer as well as the outer . This gave me a perfect ready made bag shape complete with velvet ribbon detail. The handles were the rib at the bottom of the jumper, cut off and stitched in half.
It's a gift for a colleague at work who's leaving who enjoys cross stitch so have made it as a small project bag with a drawstring top. Needle case to match still a work in progress!

...and another one

This arrived in the post yesterday from Mandi who's in Ireland visiting her parents. The lining of the books were made from painted and stamped(good old anagypta) pelmet vilene which was then stitched into place.
The final bit was stitching in the pages, which my machine didn't seem to mind at all. Now i need to put them to good use....

Another First

This must be my week for first PCs this time from my eldest daughter, she enjoys scrapbooking and card making and thought she'd try her hand at a postcard. We've been swapping PC monthly for two years now so have a great collection. Initially we alternated choosing an inspiring subject for each month, then we decided to choose our own for several swaps. However, we've decided this time to work in a series, choosing our own inspirational source. The subject of this PC is my son when he was little. I'm using Anemones as my source material, but as always am a little behind, it's only the 26th of May after all! Good job she's very forgiving when mine arrive a tad after the due date.

Completed Book Cover

Have completed a cover for my rather bulging sketchbook using the "fabric paper" i made last week. It's a Goldilocks story really, too big, too small, zip in the wrong place etc etc. Next time i think i'll produce a paper pattern or at the very least measure my cards first

Book Covers

Book covers in progress using fabric paper from previous post! Not sure how else to describe it. So...
Having spent some time during the week successfully printing onto fabric using anaglypta wallpaper as my "block" i wondered if this table cloth stuff would work in the same way! I just had to purchase a little to try!
The white background piece with plum coloured design printed onto it worked really well. I just used acrylic paint printed onto pelmet vilene. Have have since washed the piece with ink and looing good.
The greeny bluey peice in the same photo are of said tablecloth but this time used used for sunprinting with Setacolour fabric paints! The other pic is of a different design piece of plastic cloth. Very pleased with greeny blue bit but not as pleased with the faux rosey lace bit.

Fabric Paper

Still getting used to this blogging stuff, what a novice i am with extremely limited I.T skills!
The bottom photgraph in this post is one of two fairly similar foundation layers i used to make "fabric paper" They were bonded with dilute PVA onto a paper napkin. I didn't need to use a muslin stabiliser as the paper napkin i had was a "posh" one and very robust.
The second two photos are of the finished pieces of fabric having been painted, stamped embossed etc. They're destined to become bookcovers, which when complete i will endeavour to post.
The method i used is the one outlined in Beryl Taylors book, Mixed Media Explorations. However have also experimented a little, replacing the PVA with bondaweb to try and achieve a softer finished fabric. Have been fairly pleased with those results as well.

Scrumpled Fabic Paints

Formally a rather sad old white sheet was dampened then painted with Acrlic paint mixed with a fabric medium, was then scrunched up and left to dry.
